Within the spectrum of financing solutions, KBC Private Equity provides products with an equity component. These products are more risky than traditional forms of bank finance and, consequently, need to have a higher expected return. Only KBC Private Equity deals with such products within KBC Group.

The financing products offered by KBC Private Equity are divided into two categories:

• Plain vanilla equity products, i.e. equity finance, where KBC Private Equity subscribes to capital increases (usually in the case of development capital) or buys existing shares (usually in the case of a buy-out).
• Loans with an equity component, i.e. mezzanine finance, where KBC Private Equity provides loans that typically have a term of at least five years, are repayable at maturity and are usually subordinated. Rights are attached to these loans, which allow KBC Private Equity to convert all or some of the principal into shares under predetermined conditions.
